We Believe in Manicures

Your hands are one of the first things people notice about you. Having your nails done is an easy way to make yourself look polished... no pun intended, but glad it happened anyway. The glitterati girls are what you might call nail polish addicts...

I mean, the collection above belongs to me (Emily), and these are only the colors I used in the past 3ish months... I know that because they were on the front row of the shelf where I keep my lacquers. These colors are just the tip of the iceberg in my whole collection. Hi, my name is Emily and I'm a nail polish-aholic. If there's one activity Morgan and I love to partake in, it's a good mani/pedi. And a salon that serves mimosas while they pamper us? We call that the pefect BFF date.

I digress....

Luckily each season brings fabulous new color trends, and we can't wait to get our hands on these hues for Spring 2012...

And now we're itching to change our polish color... what do you guys think? Which ones are your faves?

Neon, Neon

Yep, today's post title is totally an ode to John Mayer. Couldn't help ourselves. But let's get back to business... neon is the topic of the day.

We've all seen neon colors slowly but surely coming back into style throughout the past few years. But these days neon is back in full force-- in fashion, home decor, accessories... all over the place. So that leads us to the question of the day: what do we think about neon weddings?

Do you think a neon wedding is bright and fun? Or is it too Saved-by-the-Bell-tastic for your taste? Just curious...

Pop... Fizz... Clink.

Got some extra champagne around the house from the holidays, but no real occasion to open it and celebrate? Pish posh, we say.
Champagne is a great drink any night of the week, and it's also a great ingredient when you add it into a cocktail recipe. A bubbly cocktail is a fun cocktail. Check out some of our fave ways to include champagne and sparkling white wine in your next libation...

Prosecco over Lemon Sorbet = delish dessert cocktail
1 bottle of Sake + 1 bottle champagne + mint +
strawberries + ice = refreshing
1 part blood orange juice, 3 parts champagne,
garnish with lime... the end. Thanks, Martha.
A few lightly muddled raspberries + 1 tbsp honey, pour
champagne or Prosecco over the top for perfection in a glass

So pop the cork and enjoy already!

Host a Better Party: Food Stations

Let's face it... if you're hosting a party, the first thing you're going to focus on is the food you serve. Something we've come to love at Glitterati Events is the self-serve food station trend. You'd be amazed at the ideas people come up with for a food station. Check these out!

Old Fashioned Candy Bar / via

S'mores Station / via

Wine & Cheese Station / via

Trail Mix Bar / via
Here's why we love food stations: they give the guests a more interactive experience at the party; they're a great conversation piece; the stations give everyone more choice and range in their food options; they give the host one less thing to worry about (phew); and it just makes the guests feel more at home-- you know how we love that.

So next time you host an event, consider a "Make Your Own ___" station... get creative and have fun with it!

The. Best. Salad. Ever.

The "All Hail Kale" Salad. Where do we begin? First of all, we have to apologize if you don't live in the greater Los Angeles or Orange County area and therefore don't have immediate access to this salad, because once you hear/read about it, you are going to want to (or at least you should want to) jump out of your chair and go get one.

Where to Get It: The Veggie Grill
How to Order It: With Grilled Tempeh
The Lowdown: Marinated kale and red cabbage, roasted corn salsa, quinoa, agave-roasted walnuts with a ginger-papaya vinaigrette.

There are so many healthy and wholesome ingredients in this salad. And it is seriously the yummiest tasting combination of veggies ever! Neither of us are vegetarians, but whatever they do to that tempeh makes it taste even better than meat.

We are huge salad connoisseurs, and in a health-conscious city like LA with a plethora of greens to choose from, this salad easily takes the cake. We could go on... but everyone should go try this thing for themselves.

If you aren't in LA/OC, here's a link for a great at-home recipe to try from the girls at Tone It Up, who praise this salad's amazingness as much as we do.

Host A Better Party: Table Linens

We're starting a new segment on the blog called "Host a Better Party." We'll be posting once a week on different aspects of how to host a better celebration. There are so many ways to show your guests hospitality and to make them feel at home, just by putting a little extra effort into your event.

Something we're big on at Glitterati Events is the entrance into an event space, and the overall look of the room/space when people walk in. We love it when guests walk in smiling, looking around and taking in all of the amazing details (and the hard work we've put in).

One element that can have a huge impact on an event's overall aesthetics is table linens. We can't express enough how much of a difference beautiful, textured linens can make vs. your plain white polyester linens that most spaces offer. People tend to think that renting specialty linens for an event is too costly of an expenditure-- without even looking into it. Take the time to call around, people! We promise it's not as expensive as you think!

Not all events call for fancy shmancy tablescapes, but when you're hosting a formal event like a wedding or an upscale dinner party, you want the tables to be dressed up pretty just like your guests, right? Check out these gorgeous examples:

See what we mean?! Taking time to choose the perfect linens really does make SUCH a difference in the overall look and vibe of your entire event.

Think about it... you spend hours/days/weeks/months planning your attire, the food, the color schemes, etc. If the tables are where your guests will be seated for hours throughout your event, then this is the one place where their eyes will definitely see every little detail. So why not put a little love and a little thought into how your tables will look?
